About the Studio
Pavilion Photographic Studio
Warm, friendly, and good coffee.
Pavilion Photographic Studio opened in 2011, occupying the East Pavilion of Blackburn House - a restored historic property in West Lothian operated by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust, located between Blackburn and Seafield. The impressive building you can see in the photograph above is Blackburn House itself; the studio occupies the East Pavilion to the left (nearest in shot).
The studio is primarily the base for our own portrait photography practice. Barrie works as Barrie Spence Photography for commercial work, including headshots and dancer portfolios, and as Spence Photography for social portraits including families, pets and boudoir. Fiona has her own separate photography career. The studio hire, model days and tuition grew alongside that, partly because having a well-equipped professional space lends itself to sharing it, and partly because we genuinely enjoy teaching. Those things are not an afterthought.
We are not precious about what we know. There are no secrets here, and we are always happy to talk through what we do and how we do it - whether that is over a class, during a hire session, or just over a coffee before you decide whether any of it is for you.
