Advanced Studio Lighting

A follow-on afternoon class for those who've completed the fundamentals. Less structured than the introductory workshop, more responsive - the session adapts to the group and wherever shooting takes us.

The introductory studio portrait lighting workshop covers the fundamentals and gives everyone a solid grounding. This session picks up from there. We're not going back over what you already know - the afternoon is about refining what you've learned, exploring setups you haven't tried, and pushing further with an experienced model.

The session is deliberately less structured than the one-day workshop. Rather than working through a fixed curriculum, we adapt to the group - to what people want to work on, what's not quite clicking, and what directions are worth exploring on the day. Simple setups that deliver effective results are still the guiding principle; this isn't a course in complexity for its own sake.

What to Expect:

  • Refining and extending the setups from the introductory workshop
  • Multi-light configurations - when a second light genuinely adds something
  • Exploring different approaches with the same model and setup
  • Working more independently, with tutor input rather than tutor direction
  • Whatever the group wants to focus on

The introductory Studio Portrait Lighting workshop is not a strict prerequisite, but the session assumes you are comfortable with your camera and have some experience of studio portraiture. We will not cover basic lighting principles from scratch - if you need that grounding first, the one-day workshop is the right starting point.
