Lightroom Classic — an Introductory Class

A full-day structured introduction to Lightroom Classic - building a complete workflow from import through selection, editing, and output across four two-hour segments.

Many consider Lightroom Classic very easy to use. Others find it unintuitive, complex, and genuinely difficult to get started with. The difference is usually not ability - it is whether you have understood how Lightroom thinks about images, libraries, and workflow. This class covers that.

We teach it in a single day, structured as four parts of roughly two hours each. Even then we are primarily covering what we consider the two essential modules. The four sessions build a complete workflow: import, selection, editing, and output - in that order, for good reason.

The class can also be taught one-to-one across four separate sessions, in person or via Zoom. This is a good option if a full day is difficult to commit to, or if you want to work through the material at a more individual pace. Get in touch to discuss the options.

How the Day is Structured:

Part 1
The Library Module
Importing files and structuring a library. Setting up metadata presets, keywords, and the various options to view, review, select, and filter images. A brief look at the Map module.
Parts 2 and 3
The Develop Module
Starting with basic tonal adjustments and working through the full range of editing tools. The focus is on using Develop consistently across sets of images, not just single edits.
Part 4
Output
Getting images back out again - export presets, publish services, and the Print Module. We do not cover the Slideshow or Web modules.
Throughout
Building a workflow
Each part connects to the next. By the end of the day you will have a complete, working Lightroom workflow - not a collection of disconnected techniques.
Requirements
What to bring Your own laptop or computer with a current copy of Lightroom Classic installed (active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription). Bring some images to work with - a mix of raw files is ideal.
Photography experience This is a software class, not a photography class. Any level of photography experience is fine - what matters is that you want to use Lightroom properly.
A note on workflow Adopting Lightroom usually means changing how you manage images. Many people struggle with this not because the software is difficult, but because they try to force their existing process into it. The class will ask you to start fresh - that is the point of it.
