The open day was hugely successful with close to 60 people visiting throughout the day. The goal was to generate interest in the studio and our classes – I think we succeeded. Fredau was the star of the show.

These are some of my setup shots from the day (it’s not hard for me to get great shots from a few frames with Fredau). I only shot 35 frames throughout the day, so I’m very pleased with these.

My first pick is this rather nice Rembrandt lighting pattern. Fredau works these so well for black and white (the choice of clothing is key).

The next two are simply shot using light from the window on the south side of the studio. The window blind does introduce a colour cast, but I rather like it’s creamy warmth.

This is just a single light setup:

I love clamshell lighting shots with Fredau – I can’t decide between this and the previous two natural light shots which is my favourite of the day.

We finished the day with a simple one light and a plain wall setup. Unlike a backdrop roll, a wall allows the model much more scope in posing (by leaning against it).
